Chapter 11
"The Night Continues"
They were all sitting around the table. Chris had his arm around Stephanie. Kacey was so mad. She didn’t like Stephanie at all. She was real jealous. She started kissing Jesse and acting all prissy and everything. Stephanie looked at Chris. He rolled his eyes then kissed Stephanie on the cheek. They were all talking and were interrupted, “All right! If you and your and your partner want to be New Year’s King and Queen, now is the last chance to put in your names! The box closes at 11:30.” the DJ said. “Oh Chris...do you wanna enter?” Stephanie asked smiling at him. “Sure. If you want.” he said smiling. “Ok. Let’s go put our names in.” Stephanie said getting up. Chris got up behind her holding her hand. Kacey grabbed Stephanie’s arm tightly and said. “Don’t even bother. Jesse and I are going to win!” Stephanie looked at Jesse. He rolled his eyes like he was saying, ’She is such a butt!’ Steph smiled at him as she jerked her arm away from Kacey. She and Chris went up to put their names in. “Ok...what are we supposed to put?” Chris asked as he got a piece of paper and a pen. “I guess just our names.” Stephanie said. Chris put down his name. “Ok. Now what’s you name again?” he asked jokingly. “Ugh...Chris!” she laughed. “Just kidding!” he laughed as he wrote her name down beside his. He folded the small paper and put it in the box. He grabbed Stephanie’s hand and they went to dance some more. They danced to "Halfway Around the World" by A*Teens. After they danced for a while they went back to sit down. It was almost 11:30. They waited for the DJ to tell who was the winner of the drawing.
After about five minutes the DJ said, “All right everybody listen up!” The whole room got quiet. “Ok. We are about to draw for the King and Queen.” he said as he shook the box, “Ok. The moment you guys have all been waiting for. We had a lot of entrants this year. But the winners are...Chris Trousdale and Stephanie Chadwick!” Everyone was clapping an looking around. Stephanie and Chris didn’t expect to be drawn. They were sitting at their table talking to each other. “Hey guys!! You won!” Jesse said as he got Chris’ attention. “Huh? What?” Chris said confused. “We won!” Stephanie yelled. “Yeah!!” Chris shouted as they jumped up and hugged each other. Everyone at their table was clapping and cheering, except Kacey. She was so mad! Stephanie hugged everyone that she liked at the table...including Jesse. She and Chris went up on stage. They put a crown on Stephanie and Chris. “Now the King and Queen will have a special dance.” the DJ said. Everyone cleared off the dance floor to watch Chris and Stephanie. They got out there and the song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” sung by Elton John started playing. They started dancing. Chris looked in to Stephanie’s eyes as she stared into his. ’Gosh his eyes just make you wanna melt!’ she said to herself. ’Her eyes just make you wanna melt!’ he said to himself. He leaned in and kissed her softly as they continued dancing.
When they finished dancing it was almost time to count down for the New Year. Everyone gathered around. “Ok you guys...ready?” the DJ said. They all started counting! “5...4...3...2...1...Happy New Year!!” everyone shouted. Everyone kissed their dates. Chris kissed Steph, Greg kissed Savannah, Frankie kissed Ashley, Jesse kissed Kacey on the cheek quickly, she was still mad, and Matt kissed the girl he met on the cheek...her name was Kayla. They had all gotten to know her and she was like the other girls’ best friend. Everyone hugged and said Happy New Year! It was really late but only Chris and Stephanie wanted to go home. They had to get up early to be in the parade. “Hey man...we’re tired. Ya ready to go?” Chris said to Matt who was dancing with Kayla. “No not yet...but ya’ll go on...Greg can drop me off.” Matt said. “Ok.” Chris said. “Hey babe. We can go now.” Chris whispered in Stephanie’s ear. Stephanie was half asleep. “Ok.” she said quietly. They both said bye to everyone and Chris put his arm around Steph and they went to his car.
They got out to Chris’ car and got in. He put the top up because it was really cold. Stephanie woke up a little so she and Chris could talk. As Chris pulled out Stephanie told him, “Thanks for everything!” “Oh you’re welcome.” he said as he got out onto the road. “I’m glad...I mean...happy we...ugh...I don’t know how to say it!” she laughed. Chris laughed, “Say what?” “That I’m glad you and I are...ya know...a couple.” she said. “Oh! Me too.” he smiled. It was quiet for a few minutes. “So it’s cool we won the...” Chris started to say but he saw Stephanie had fallen asleep wrapped up in his coat. He smiled as he thought about how much fun he had with her at the dance.
Chris pulled up in Matt’s driveway. He got out quietly and went around to wake Steph up. He opened her door. “Hey...Stephanie...we’re here.” he said quietly in her ear. “Hmm...oh ok.” she said tired as she got out of the car. Chris had his arm around her. When they got inside they saw Uncle J. carrying Jen upstairs. They had their own little party but Jen fell asleep. Sue and Lisa were cleaning up a little before they went to bed. “Hey mama.” Stephanie said. “Hey sweetheart...how was the dance?” her mom said. “It was great. Chris and I won King and Queen and we will be in the parade tomorrow.” Steph replied as Chris was helping her get his coat off. “Great. Where’s Matt?” Sue asked. “Oh he wanted to stay longer Mrs. B. Greg is gonna bring him home.” Chris said. “Oooh ok.” Matt’s mom yawned. “We’re gonna go to bed now. Don’t stay up to late guys.” Sue said as she went upstairs. Lisa kissed Stephanie goodnight and followed Sue. “Ok.” they both said. “So...I guess I better get going.” Chris said to Stephanie. “Yeah...guess so. We have to get up early tomorrow because the people in the parade have to be there and hour and a half before the parade.” she said. “Oh yeah. What time do we gotta be up there?” Chris asked. “I think...around 7 a.m. because the parade starts at 8:30 or 9.” she replied. “Oh ok. So...I guess I’ll pick you up around 6:30 then.” Chris said, “Are you gonna wear your dress again?” “Yeah.” she said. “Ok...I’ll just wear something else nice kinda like what I have own.” Chris said. “Ok.” Stephanie said. “Well see ya tomorrow.” Chris said as he leaned in to kiss her. They kissed softly for a few seconds and then they said their goodbyes and Chris left. Stephanie went upstairs and got ready for bed. She laid down in her bed and thought about Chris until she fell asleep.
